Project Summary

BEFoRE – Benefits From Restoration conducts research into the impact that restoration projects have on communities and ecosystems. The project looks at diverse landscapes, social, and legal frameworks to create a scalable model for restoration guidelines, using Brazil and Iceland as sites of investigation.

These scalable models are important in standardizing restoration work through guidelines, tools, and resources that can be used by practitioners for restoration action. This provides investment confidence to ensure capacity-building and resource mobilization.

BEFoRE has just completed its second year. During this time, 2 research programs have been developed, including one in Brazil and one in Iceland. These programs have compiled a series of restoration projects to be studied for the duration of the project in each locality so that restoration guidelines can be created.
